Alumni

WE ARE SO PROUD OF THE AMAZING WORK OUR ALUMNI ARE DOING!

Congratulations to Kama Sood whose last film, The Bus Stop, has been accepted to 6 film festivals. It won Best Student Film at the Whistler Film Festival, Best North American Short Film at the Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival, Best Student Film at the Oniro’s Film Awards, and was nominated for a 2019 Leo Award for Best Student Production. It has been highly regarded by the North Van Dementia Awareness Committee, the south asian film community, and will be playing at the New York City International Reel Film Festival at the end of July. Look out for his next short film (tentatively titled “Glory Days”) which Nathan (below – another alumni of the DFA) is currently editing. It stars Ben Ratner and David Lewis, and is about a washed up rockstar who is forced to confront his past when he meets a mysterious young woman. He currently is working full time on a Netflix film as a director’s assistant. Kama graduated from the DFA in 2016 and went on to continue his study at Capilano University. We are so proud of his pursuit of truthful and intelligent storytelling and know he will continue to amaze his audiences!

His attention to detail as well as his commitment to truthful, artistic and beautiful cinematography and sound scapes will bring great people and work into his life!

Congratulations to Julia Vlasenko who just graduated from the famed Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Her next step is to get her papers in order to work in the states so she can start auditioning again and “getting out there”. We are so proud of your hard work Julia!
