Ladner’s Kama Sood loves the creativity and camaraderie that comes with filmmaking.

“You get to collaborate with people and come up with really cool visual art,” he says, noting each project is different.

“I just love the whole process of making a film, going from script to film.”

The 18-year-old’s latest project is titled My Name is Robin. The short film is a drama with a romance element and includes a cast of four.

Sood, a former Delta Film Production Academy student, says about half of the project was filmed in Ladner and that it’s currently in the editing process. He’s hoping to have it finished by December.

His friend Roberto Estrada came up with the story while Sood wrote the screenplay. Estrada, who was an international student at the academy last year, is a “big part of the movie,” Sood says.

Once finished it will be free to watch online (www.kamasood.com and Facebook).

Sood, who’ll soon be starting a motion picture arts program at Capilano University, says his goal is to be a writer and director in the film industry.

He’s already picked up awards for directing and cinematography at a pair of film festivals for young filmmakers with his previous short film Nirvana.
